The Origin of a Species and the Mixed Martial Arts author, John Perretti is a prior pugilist, painter, and poet. He was a professor at SVA, the co-creator of Extreme Fighting, and coiner of the term "Mixed Martial Arts." He founded the gym Madison Avenue Muscle and has continued to dedicate himself to the largely unexplored territory between the fine and the martial arts. This is his first book and is a great read.
John Perretti was a major player in the early years of MMA, creating the gloves, the rounds, the music, the weight classes and the talent by co=founding Extreme Fighting, The Contenders, and acting as the legendary UFC matchmaker/ color commentator. If you are a fan of MMA, this is an excellent book that offers Johns unique perspective.
The book is over 300 pages long and contains tons of great information and insights from John himself. There are also some pictures to really draw you in. A great read that you will have a hard time putting down. John is poetic at times in this memoir. The book also contains insights into Johns life in the 1950s and 1980s in New York, Hollywood, Peru, and so many more adventures. You will relive Johns fitness competitions, painting, sculpting, big game hunting, spearfishing, fighting, traveling and more in this great book.
