Mindy Mylrea Fluid Strength DVD Review

Fluid Strength
Mindy Mylrea, 2016

Mindy leads this super unique 67 min flowing toning routine alone in a living room type set. You will only need gliding discs for this workout; you dont even need shoes. The DVD is fully chaptered.

The format is one focused set (outlined to follow) using body weight, followed by a variation of that set using gliding discs. After a warm up, exercises include dip to balance nee adding a hop, balance stick to knee balance raises, hinged glute raises, plank glute raises, side lying series, down dog series with knee pulls, low hover, dolphin & plank; plank series, gorilla leg extension to tri dip, V sit to bridge, V twist to single leg bridge, side plank  hip drops and twists adding leg raises, pushups, and a flowing disc cool down & stretch.

I rate this an advanced workout, super unique and the discs definitely up the intensity. Tons of great balance work and Mindy really keeps things moving along. Definitely one of the most unique workouts I have done in a while. Mindy provides great instruction & motivation. I received this DVD to review.

You can select a chapter, it includes Mindys intro and exercise info. Equipment includes: small ball, exercise ball, figure 8 tubing, bosu, and gliding discs.

After a warm up, exercises include: squat variations, plies, heel raise plies, squat to plie hops, squat series using the discs, bosu squats adding hops, lunge to dip adding a twist, around the world lunges, curtsy dips, static lunges adding hops, balance lunge work, bulgarian split squat hops, plank, down to up dog & plank flow, push up using the disc and bosu, pushups adding arm raises, tri dips, tri dips using the discs, tri pushups, rollback, plank hip dips, pushup to side plank, burpee variations, dead bug on the bosu, oblique crunches using a small ball, bridge & ham pull ins using the band, lower body floor work using gliding discs, side lying leg lifts using tubing, donkey kick series, and a cool down.

I rate this a high intermediate routine. Mindy includes tons of great twists on traditional exercises. She provides tons of great info that is perfect if you instruct your own classes or work out alone without DVDs. I love Mindy's energy and that she provides so many unique options for tried and true effective exercises. Work those muscles in a new way and prevent boredom. The chapters make this very versatile to mix & match or add to other workouts. I received this DVD to review.

Interview: Q&A Session with Fitness Pro Mindy Mylrea (8-23-2011)

Belles: You have been involved in the fitness industry for many years. For those who aren’t familiar with you or your programs, what can you tell us about yourself and your fitness background?
Mindy: I started teaching fitness dance at the age of 17. I was one of the first “aerobic” instructors in Northern CA. I started teaching 4 classes a day at 5.00 at class. All high impact. I also entered every aerobic competition in the early 80s. I won the National and World Aerobic Championships in 1991.
Belles: Everyone has been anxiously anticipating the release of your newest program, 360Miracle, what can you tell us about it and the motivation behind it and the benefits of this type of training method?
Mindy: This has been many years in the making. I noticed as I have gotten older that more is not better – better is better. I have always had great success with interval training and I wanted to take HIIT to the next level. Everything about this program is smart and sensible. This program is not a quick fix. It is a lifestyle change. It is as much about what you are eating as it is about what you are choosing for your exercise.
Belles: You have a wide variety of exercise programs under your belt from BOSU to Gliding Disks, Step to now Tabata-style workouts. Do you have a favoriteform of exercise or does the variety keep you motivated?
Mindy: Variety is the key and I love it all. I incorporate Tabatas with all my toys to keep it all fresh and fun.
Belles: You are also a proponent of functional fitness, what are the benefits of this type of training and how do you recommend incorporating it into one’s fitness regimen?
Mindy: We should train movement and not muscle. Functional training allows our body to react quickly and with ease. Make each day movement oriented. One hour in gym class is not going to make up for 8 hours sitting at a desk. Take every opportunity to be active and mobile.
Belles: You recently celebrated a “big” birthday. What advice do you have for people young and old who say it is too late to start an exercise program?
Mindy: Attitude is everything. You can be old or you can be young at any age. Staying active throughout the day is the key as I mentioned before. You are not going to be balanced fit and active if you don’t look at the whole package – what you do during your entire day and how you fuel your body for success.
Belles: If you could leave us with one word of fitness wisdom, what would it be and why?
Mindy: Everything is a gift. Being able to move is a gift. Eating wonderful beautiful food that nourishes body and soul is a gift. Being mindful and present is the best way to dive into everything that we do. We get misaligned when we don’t think about our actions and deeds. We fall behind and lose the joy. We live with guilt and we need to stop. Exercise with intention and purpose. Eat with joy and thankfulness. Enjoy every step and every bite. And balance will come

Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle Review: 6 Minute: Disc 2

Today's Review: 360 Miracle: 6 Minute: Disc 2
Mindy Mylrea, 2011 **** (4 of 5 stars)

There are 12 six minute workouts on this dvd: 4 upper body, 4 lower body, and 4 core. There is a huge window overlooking the ocean in the background. Mindy works out alone but offers modification options for some exercises. You can't mix and match or "play all." You have to go back to the main menu if you want to do multiple (but you can skip to the next w/o while in that w/o). No equipment required.

The format of these workouts is: each workout contains 2 exercises repeated 4 times each. Each exercise lasts 20 seconds with a 10 second rest in between. The upper and lower body workouts also contain cardio and some of the core work is standing, some on the floor. Each 6 minute w/o contains a quick warmup & cooldown.

Upper Body Exercises: burpee-hop hop hop- burpee combo, chataranga hold, pushup to side plank, out out in in w/ a lat pull, boxer shuffle & punch combo, lat pull down w/ a squat & hop, and wide to narrow pushups. Lower Body Exercises: slow plyo lunges, deep moguls, side to side squats, pendulum hops, squat-side & front kick, plyo jacks, front-back lunge hops. Core Exercises: figure 8 hops, V rotations, dip hop chop combo, plank side knee pulls, stationary mogul hops, stationary runner, side plank-reach under, and side lunge & torso twist.

I would rate these workouts as solid intermediates. The no equipment option is great for travel or those that dont have dumbbells. I love the addition of cardio to the UB & LB w/o's but didnt feel that my UB muscles were thouroughly worked. My core & LB were due to body weigth. I added weighted gloves to the UB and used the w/u & c/d sections to do my own weighted UB work to up the strength training in those. Mindy is an excellent lead, great cuing, & very motivational! Received to review.

The format of these workouts is: each workout contains 2 exercises repeated 4 times each. Each exercise lasts 20 seconds with a 10 second rest in between. The upper and lower body workouts also contain cardio and some of the core work is standing, some on the floor. Each 6 minute w/o contains a quick warmup & cooldown & Mindy gives you a daily tip at the end.

Upper Body Exercises: jab, speed bag, squat hop & floor touch, tri push offs, jab cross, football run & arm flrry, football run & floor touch, & pushup -arm raise. Lower Body Exercises: sumo squat jumps w./ an added heel click, side lunge knee ups, dip knee ups, squat inner thigh sweeps, lunge & front leg curl, etc. And she adds hops & plyos to all the moves. Core Exercises: wood chop, figure 8's, side plank drops, V sit, elevator planks, torso twist & knee pull, crunch w/ a knee pull, & side knee ups.

I would rate these workouts as solid intermediates. The no equipment option is great for travel or those that dont have dumbbells. Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle Review: 30 Minute Lower Body

Today's Review: 360 Miracle, 30 Minute Lower Body Workout
Mindy Mylrea, 2011

This dvd contains two 30 minute lower body workouts- one advanced & one beginner. The w/o's are body weight only & contain a lot of good cardio. Both feature the same exercises but the beginner workout includes more instruction, backgrounder modifications, and Mindy offers level options for alternative intensities. The background is a super nice living room with a huge window looking out into the beautiful ocean. Mindy works out alone in the advanced and with 3 backgrounders of various fitness levels in the beginner. No equipment required.

This w/o is structured that you perform each of the 8 exercises at 70% intensity for 40 seconds, 60% for 30 seconds, and then 90% for 20 seconds. Each of these intensity "bursts" have a short rest period in between. Exercises include: side to side squats adding a hop, lunge dip to plyo lunge, side lunge add hop & floor touch, pliet hops add jump & heel clicks, Brazilian lunges, static knee pulls, & pendulums.

I rate the beginner dvd a true beginner w/o and the advanced workout is solid intermediate. The workouts are body weight only and I dont see how you could easily add weights to the moves as they all include cardio as well.  I like that this does include a lot of good cardio work mixed in with the lower body work-making it a very enjoyable workout. I really like Mindy and the progression of the exercises is nice. Great cuing and great for travel or small spaces. I received this dvd to review.

Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle Review: 30 Minute Core Workout

360 Miracle, 30 Minute Core Workout
Mindy Mylrea, 2011

This dvd contains two 30 minute core workouts- one advanced & one betginner. Both feature the same exercises but the beginner workout includes more instruction, backgrounder modifications (including the use of a chair), and Mindy offers level options for alternative intensities. I love the set- a  living room with a huge window looking out into the ocean (gorgeous). Mindy works out alone in the advanced and with 3 backgrounders of various fitness levels in the beginner. You will only need an optional chair for the beginner w/o and no equipment for the advanced.

The workouts are structured that you work at 70% intensity for 40 seconds, 60% for 30 seconds, and then 90% for 20 seconds. Each of these intensity "bursts" have a short rest period in between. This is a very active core routine that includes some nice cardio as well. My core was worked very well and from all angles.  She includes lots of fun exercises, lots of variety & many unique moves.

Exercises include: The exercises are progressive, so you do three intensity levels of the same basic exercise.  lunge side chop, burpees progressing to Mt. climbers, V hold, bicycle, wood chop, torso twist cross knee pulls adding in a hop, plank side toe top to cross taps, and plank shifts progressing to elevator planks.

I rate the beginner w/o a true beginner w/o due to the use of the chair. The advanced workout really worked my core- and I would rate it a high intermediate workout. I am a HUGE fan of core cardio and the advanced is just that. Fun & active, accomplishes a lot in only 30 minutes. Very well rounded and you can tell Mindy is having  a blast! I received this dvd to review.

Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle Review: 60 Minute Cardio

360 Miracle 60 Minute Cardio
Mindy Mylrea, 2011

Mindy leads this 60 min cardio workout alone in a living room set w/ a gorgeous ocean view in the background. The dvd offers warmup, cardio kick, cardio dance, cardio sport, and cooldown. Mindy offers modification options for many of the exercises. You will not need any equipment for this workout.

Cardio Dance: More of an old school hi-lo than true dance IMO- which I liked. Lots of fun! Exercises include: mambo- cha cha, V step, scoop up, hops, kicks, cardio lunges, and finishes with some microburst versions of the previous exercises.

Cardio Kick: Cardio kickboxing with some aerobic transitions. Exercises include: punch & kick combos, V step, shuffle & punch, knee pulls, speed bags, lunge hops, skiing, and jacks. Easy to follow but not boring.

Cardio Sport: This section is all microbursts- 4 minutes of work followed by 2 minutes of active rest. The "work" segments are broken down into 20 seconds "on" and 10 seconds rest. Exercises include: kick to floor touch, out out in in, knee hops, skater, jacks, and tire run.

I would rate this an intermediate workout. The sport section was shorter but a bit more intense than the others. You could easily adapt this workout to fit any fitness level. Mindy is a great lead and her cuing & form pointers were very good. Very versatile dvd- use it in whole or easy to break up for shorter w/o's. I received this dvd to review.

Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle Review: Upper Body Workout Disc 2 Review

Today's Review: Mindy Mylrea 360 Miracle: 30 Minute Upper Body Workout (Disc 2)
Mindy Mylrea, 2011 ***** (4.5 of 5 stars)

This dvd contains two 30 minute upper body workouts- one advanced & one betginner. Both feature the same exercises but the beginner workout includes more instruction, backgrounder modifications, and Mindy offers level options for alternative intensities. The set is awesome- a nice living room with a huge picture window looking out into the ocean (gorgeous). Mindy works out alone in the advanced and with 3 backgrounders of various fitness levels in the beginner. You will only need your figure 8 tubing for this workout.

The workouts are structured that you work at 70% intensity for 40 seconds, 60% for 30 seconds, and then 90% for 20 seconds. Each of these intensity "bursts" have a short rest period in between. This is a very well rounded upper body routine. Mindy does a great job of hitting all the UB muscles and working them to fatigue or failure. I like the band- it is a good resistance and Mindy does a great job at upping the ante with each "burst."

Exercises include: chest fly w/ isolation squats, kneeling to standing bicep curls (to up the intensity), progressive pushups, tri kicbacks & OH tri press, lat raise, tricep pushups, lat pull down, and includes a warmup & cooldown. She hits all the muscle groups & includes some static lower body work as well.

I rate the beginner dvd good for all levels- its slower moving and contains more options than the advanced workout. The advanced workout worked my muscles to fatigue or failure- and I would rate it a high intermediate workout. This is a very enjoyable workout. I really like Mindy and the sequencing of the work. Great cuing and great for travel or space limitations. I received this dvd to review.

Mindy Mylrea's All Out Cardio Review

All Out Cardio
Mindy Mylrea, 2010

This is a super diverse cardio workout that offers TONS of options: kickboxing, jump rope, intervals, med ball, and more. Mindy leads in a cute studio alone, or with her son in the interval segments. The dvds total running time is 83 minutes but is chaptered so well- allowing you to pick and choose your segments and includes TONS of premixes! You will need an optional rope-less jump rope (or regular rope) and a med ball for some of the segments.

Cardio Kick: (21 min) This is a basic kickboxing routine that does not contain any complex choreo and will get your heart rate up. It consists of 4 combos, which Mindy builds on to make little routines. Each combo is followed by a travelling pattern. Exercises include: punch & kick combos, V step, shuffle, jacks, speed bag, knee pulls, hi knee jog, double run, & moguls. Mindy really keeps you moving in this- no standing still & punching- your feet are always going!

Cardio Jump: (13 min) Mindy uses a rope-less jump rope (I used 1 # hand weights) for this section. Exercises include: hi jumps, lots of big arm movements, jacks, pendulum jumps, boxer shuffle, hops, hi knee jumps, heel digs, single leg hops, etc. Nonstop and heart pounding! Would probably be very good on the rebounder as well!

Cardio Strong: (16 min) This is a cardio plus very light "toning" (I used it for cardio) med ball section. SUPER fun- I love med ball work and this one was great. Exercises include: plyo lunges w/ figure 8's, grape vine- ham curls, step hop, jog- ball pass, ball through legs, knee up- ball pass under leg, cardio lunges, shuffle, flying jacks, etc. Fun but tough! I was sweating bullets w/ a 4 # ball.

Intervals: (24 min) There is an interval section coordinating to each of the sections above. They are short (8ish minutes), high energy, and each section contains six 30-60 second moves with an active 30 second break between. Exercises include: can can kick, fast feet, shuffle-180 jumps, burpees, flurry, hi knee run, pass ball under knee, Mt. climbers, skaters, moguls, ski runs, plyo lunges, heel jumps, flying heel clicks, etc.

There is also a 4 min cooldown/ stretch segment. I rate this a low to solid advanced workout- depending on which premix(es) you do. Mindy is a great lead- none of the exercises are complicated or overly choreographed but she does move fast so you do have to pay attention. High energy, pretty high impact, lots of unique stuff, and lots of fun! So many time & style options are included- this dvd has a place in everyones library! I received this dvd to review.
