Strong and Sweaty: Boot Camp
Cathe Friedrich, 2016

Cathe leads this 44 min strength & cardio workout with 4 backgrounders in her usual set. You will need dumbbells, a barbell, and a step for this workout. The workout structure is 6 rounds of cardio, lower body, upper body, and a compound exercise.

After a warm up, exercises include cardio lunges off the step, elevated lunges, static lunge with front & side raises, bi curls, jumps to the box - plyo jacks - power 7's, marching sumps, front swing to overhead press, pushups, uneven squat hops around the box, cross back lunge to sumos, split stance with upright row & front raises, weighted tri dips, burpee - plank jacks off the box & box jumps, fast squats, dips off the step, clean & press, single arm row, upper back fly, straddle jumps to the box, side to side lunges, swimmer lunges off the step, diagonal lunges, pullover & chest fly, 1 arm plank with tri kickbacks, and a cool down & stretch.

I rate this a solid advanced routine. Challenging but I didnt think I was going to die. My heart rate was high and I definitely felt the burn on this one. This is a great get-it-all-in workout! I used moderate weights to go with the moderate pace. Cathe does provide some short rest breaks between sets. I did NOT receive this workout to review.

Cathe Friedrich's NEW Strong & Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets Review

Cathe's latest set: Strong and Sweaty! The set contains five DVDs and an optional cycling DVD. The DVDs are also available individually. This set is a high intermediate to advanced series containing 77 premixes and a bonus ab routine. The premixes include upper or lower body only, higher and lower impact cardio, various timesaver options, and more. The series contains different training methods to shock and challenge your muscles and work your cardio and modifications are offered. Read all of my Cathe Strong and Sweaty Reviews.

Strong and Sweaty: Total Body Giant Sets
Cathe Friedrich, 2016

Cathe works out with 4 background exercisers in her usual studio for this 51 min strength workout. You will need dumbbells, a barbell, gliding discs (or alternative) and a stability ball for this workout. You perform 5 lower body exercises alternating with 5 upper body exercises, working one muscle group at a time.

After a warm up exercises include: squats, glider dips, plies, glider side lunges, dead lifts, overhead press, upright row, upper back fly, incline front raise, seated lat raises, wide stance deadlifts, glider curtsy lunges, diagonal lunges, static lunges, unweighted glider warrior lunges, single arm row, ribcage pullover, pec fly, incline chest press, push ups, unweighted low runners lunge knee pulls using the discs, glider side lunges putting down & picking up your weight, overhead tricep extensions, tricep bench press, lying overhead tri drops, seated W curls, incline hammer curls, and concludes with a stretch using the ball.

Going as heavy as Cathe & team, this is a lower advanced workout, but adjust your weights to make the workout work for you. I like the use of the ball & gliding discs for variety. The routine contains all effective exercises, there is no fluff and very little rest between moves so your heart rate will be up. This is a little lower body heavy but does hit all the upper body muscles. You do squats & deadlifts a few times but otherwise this has very little There is no ab work, but the S&S ab routine is on this disc. I did NOT receive this dvd to review.

REVIEW: Cathe Friedrich's NEW Strong and Sweaty PHA Training

Cathe's latest set: Strong and Sweaty! The set contains five DVDs and an optional cycling DVD. The DVDs are also available individually. This set is a high intermediate to advanced series containing 77 premixes and a bonus ab routine. The premixes include upper or lower body only, higher and lower impact cardio, various timesaver options, and more. The series contains different training methods to shock and challenge your muscles and work your cardio and modifications are offered. Read all of my Cathe Strong and Sweaty Reviews.

Cathe Friedrich, 2016

Cathe leads this 43 minute strength workout with 4 backgrounders in her usual studio. You will need dumbbells and a step bench for this routine. You will perform 3 rounds of 6 exercises alternating upper and lower body with 2 different circuits.

Exercises include: squats off the end of the bench, overhedad press, side lunges, upright row, step ups, release push ups, curtsy off the stp, bi curls, deadlifts, ribcage pullover, squats, lying tri drops and concludes with a stretch.

I rate this a solid intermediate routine. Cathe doesnt go heavy at all and the pace is moderate. There is not a lot of rest breaks so your heart rate does rise. You can easily go heavier to increase the challenge & I did. Solid straight forward strength routine that gets the job done. Great for days when you dont want a tricky routine or complex combo moves. I did NOT receive this DVD to review.

Strong and Sweaty: Ramped Up Upper Body
Cathe Friedrich, 2017

Cathe leads this 47 min upper body routine in her brick set with 4 backgrounders. You will need a variety of dumbbells, bench & risers, and tubing for this routine. You will work each upper body muscle group to failure before moving on to the next muscle group.

After a warm up  exercises include row variations, ribcage pullover, rear delt fly, chest fly, pushups, tricep bench press, tri drops, lying tri drops, standing overhead tri drops, band kickbacks, overhead press, front raise, lat raise variations, band shoulder circles, band rear delt & press backs, bi curls, hammer curls, rotation curls, crazy 8 curls, and a stretch.

This is an advanced routine that really burned out my entire upper body. It is reminiscent of other of Cathe's upper body routines. Solid workout that left me sore for days. Good pace & tempo, allows heavy weights, with no wasted time. I did not receive this DVD to review.

Cathe Friedrich Strong and Sweaty Cardio Slam Review

Cathe's latest set: Strong and Sweaty! The set contains five DVDs and an optional cycling DVD. The DVDs are also available individually. This set is a high intermediate to advanced series containing 77 premixes and a bonus ab routine. The premixes include upper or lower body only, higher and lower impact cardio, various timesaver options, and more. The series contains different training methods to shock and challenge your muscles and work your cardio and modifications are offered. Read all of my Cathe Strong and Sweaty Reviews.

Strong and Sweaty: Cardio Slam
Cathe Friedrich, 2017

Cathe leads this 49 minute cardio workout in her gym set with 4 backgrounders. You will need a step, mat, and light weights for this routine. The first section is weighted floor cardio, then you use your mat as a gauge, and concludes with a step portion using your riser and you will repeat the sections.

After a warm up, exercises include  plyo lunges & weighted chop, plyo cross jacks, heel click jacks, weighted squat jump to lunge jump, skater hi knee, explosive ham curls, shuffle slam, power hop up blocking jacks back, spidey climbers, burpee plyo over mat, long jump combo, burpees to rise & hop back up on to step, repeater knee sprinters, 1/2 burpee off riser and plank jacks, soccer drill straddle, and a cool down.

This is a low to solid advanced workout that will have you sweating and burning tons of calories. Lots of plyos mixed with some lower impact moves make it doable and the variety of floor, step, & mat make the time go by quickly. I like this routine and think I will utilize some of the shorter premixes more often than the full 50 minute routine. I did not receive this DVD to review.

Introducing Cathe Friedrich's NEW Strong and Sweaty DVD Series

I decided to do the pre-order for Cathe's latest set: Strong and Sweaty! The set contains five DVDs in one plastic case and you can opt to add the additional cycling DVD to the set if youd like. I havent done the workouts yet, but will be posting detailed reviews on the blog, so stay tuned! This set is a high intermediate to advanced series containing a ton of premixes (77 to be exact) and a bonus ab routine. The premixes include upper or lower body only, higher and lower impact cardio, various timesaver options, and more. The series contains different training methods to shock and challenge your muscles and work your cardio. Cathe also offers many modifications for exercises throughout the series.

Cathe has listened to her fans with this series, the inclusion of a modifier, workouts between 40-50 minutes and so many premix options including the lower impact cardio are most definitely what many of us LOVE! Along with the set you get a free online Strong & Sweaty User's Guide that includes workout instructions and several rotations.

You will need dumbbells, a barbell, tubing, an exercise ball, a mat, gliding discs (or alternative), and a step with risers for these workouts. Though I find you can use alternatives or omit some equipment easily. While there is no lower body DVD, there are lower body only premixes included on many of the DVDs so really I dont feel like we are missing anything there. The bonus ab routine is an innovative 13 minutes and is included on each DVD. The 40-50 min time frame is perfect for me these days as I usually start with an ab warm-up and then finish with use my own 10 min stretch routine.

The Workouts:
  1. PHA Training: (43 min) Weight work alternating lower & upper body strength work for cardiovascular and fat-burning benefits!
  2. Total Body Giant Sets (51 min) Work each muscle group to failure before moving on to the next muscle group
  3. Boot Camp (44 min) One minute intervals of cardio, upper body, lower body and metabolic segments
  4. Cardio Slam (41 min) an intense mix of high impact and low impact blasts both on and off the step, and utilizes light weights to up the cardio

Cathe Friedrich Intensity Series Bootcamp + Muscle Endurance Review

Intensity Series Bootcamp + Muscle Endurance
Cathe Friedrich, 2002

This DVD contains two full, hour long workouts and tons of premixes. Cathe leads in a brick/ coliseum set with a group of backgrounders. You will need high step, barbell, dumbbells, and a medicine ball for these routines.

Muscle Endurance (65 min): This full body strength workout includes a full warm-up and cool-down. Exercises include leg press, squats, deadlifts, lat row, bi curl, pec fly, pushups, ball squeezes, tri dips, kickbacks, lunge hinge & glute raise, overhead with rotation, front &side raises, bent lat raise, upper back fly, double crunches using the ball, supine ball to leg sweep, V twist with the ball, side plank hp drops with the ball on your hips, and full body crunches.

I rate this a lower advanced workout, that you could make more or less challenging by adjusting your poundage. You use lighter weights and more reps each exercise than your normal Cathe workout and the pace is just right. Cathe provides tons of tempo and pace changes to keep your muscles guessing and to keep it interesting.

Boot Camp (58 min): This full body cardio & strength routine includes a warm-up and cool-down. The format is 8 cycles of one minute: cardio, lower body, upper body, and core. Exercises include: jack and air jack variations, squats, row, side plank rotations, sumo shuffle, static lunges, pushups, ball to toe sit-ups, jack-jab-plyo jacks, plie, speed skaters, tri dips, ball reverse crunches, burpee- mt. climber, single arm row, squat -roundhouse kick, side plank hip raise using the ball, hitch kicks, military press, double side crunches, jump-kick-knee hop combo, ice breakers, ball side lunges, hammer curls, and V twists using the ball.

I rate this a high intermediate workout. Tons of great cardio and full body strength work make this a great well rounded workout. Cathe provides lots of tempo changes to really work those muscles and to keep the workout fun.

Cathe ICE Series: To The Mat Legs & Glutes Review

I recently bought Cathe's newest series ICE. ICE stands for Intermediate Conditioning Extreme. The set includes seven DVDs in one sturdy plastic DVD case. The DVDs also contain five "Muscle Meltdown" workout, two ab workouts, and five "Blizzard Blast" workouts. The Muscle Meltdowns are short body part specific all strength routines. The Blizzard Blasts are shorter, original footage workouts. You can read all of my ICE reviews here.

Cathe Friedrich, 2016

This is a 49 min lower body mat workout. Cathe works out with her crew in her regular studio. You will need dumbbells, an exercise ball, a band, and a loop, for this routine.

After a warm up, exercises include: hamstring ball pull-ins, frog pull ins, side lying no the ball leg series, supine ball toss & catch, inner thigh ball squeeze, quad & inner thigh work on the ball, plank step ins with the loop, hydrants using the loop, seated calf press with the band, side plank hip lifts & leg raises, inner thigh raises, supine elevated heel presses, plank to crouch, side lying L outer thigh series, clam, down dog to plank with a leg raise, flutter kicks, low back work, and a cool down & stretch.

I rate this a high intermediate routine. Tons of variety and lots of fun, unique exercise had me feeling the burn. This is a good one to break up and add on to other workouts or do in its entirety if you are a mat workout type of exerciser. I like to break it up & add to standing lower body workouts personally.  I did not receive this DVD to review.
