Today's Workout, Broccoli Recipe, and Cinnamon

Today's Workout:
-Aerobic Body Shaping
-10 Min Sol: Quick Tummy Toners-"bikini belly"
*total w/o time-60 min + stretch

Today's Recipe: Citrus Broccoli

-3 bunches broccoli
-1 large clove garlic, peeled and sliced
-2 Tbs olive oil (or Pam)
-1 orange, zested and juiced
-2 Tbs citrus flavored Craisins or pomegranate seeds

Steam broccoli according to your steamers directions. In a skillet cook garlic in olive oil or Pam until golden brown, stirring frequently. Add ½ cup orange juice, 1 tsp orange zest and broccoli to skillet. Cook 2 min until heated. Season with salt and pepper if desired. Remove from heat & add Craisins or pomegranate seeds toss and serve.

Today's Tip: Cinnamon: Researchers at the United States Department of Agriculture showed that a quarter to one teaspoon of cinnamon with food helps metabolize sugar up to twenty times better than food not eaten with cinnamon. Excess sugar in the blood can lead to fat storage. Before you sip that chai tea latte or eat your oatmeal, sprinkle on the cinnamon.

  1. Hi LIndsey!

I found your blog over at Video Fitness. I'm loving all the workout gossip, recipes and Hello Kitty stuff. Although I shouldn't spend too much time here or I'll be tempted to buy yet more workout DVDs - just kidding!

Re cinnamon, I read about it as a metabolism booster years ago at a body building forum, then I stumbled across a blog written by a diabetic. The diabetic's doctor recommended she take it in capsule form to stabilise her blood sugar levels. It's not available in capsule form here in Australia, so I started importing it from the US. The company is AmerMed if anyone's interested. Since I've been taking it, my blood sugar levels - and hence hunger and energy levels - have really evened out.

    Interesting...

  2. ahhh thanks! Im glad to see someone is actually reading this LOL! Ya I know what you mean about being pursuaded to buy yet more w/o's that we (probably) dont need. But hey there are worse habits to have!

I also, started taking cinnamon recently in addition to fish oil-because I know I dont get enough "good" fat in my diet. I am also seeing a positives from both. I tend to get crazy hungry and I do think the cinnamon is helping!

  3. Hah! I know what you mean about crazy hungry! My hubby says in my pre-cinnamon days I would get home from work snarling like a ravening beast and have to eat something right away. Now I just say, "Hello dear - how was your day?", then quickly get changed to do my post-work workout. I swear it has changed my life!

I take fish oil pills too, even though I get plenty of good fats in my diet. They are good for soreness and inflammation.
