Lindsey: You have put out SO many amazing workout DVDs! How do you continually come up with such fun, effective, & innovative routines.

Kelly: When I workout alone in my basement I do whatever I am in the mood for and new routines happen all the time. Also, new moves and ideas always jump into my head when I'm running, driving and reviewing my instructors' classes. I actually cant shut my brain off when it comes to workout ideas, they just keep popping up.

Lindsey: How did you get started in the fitness industry?

Kelly: When I was 13 when I started lifting free weights with my brother and it morphed into an amazing love for fitness until this day. My first official job in the fitness industry was at a Holiday Spa near my college when I was 20.

Lindsey: What does your typical workout week look like?
Kelly: Teaching classes Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays (Intervals, weights, Boxing), working out alone in my basement Tuesdays, running 2-3 miles on Wednesday, DVD/workout rehearsals in my basement on Saturdays occasionally. When in training for a DVD, add on Mon, Wed, Friday rehearsal workouts with my crew after teaching class.

Lindsey: What advice can you offer my readers about sticking to their workout routines/ accomplishing their fitness goals?
Kelly: Just know and accept that you wont want to do it every day but that you HAVE to in order to feel, think and look better.

REVIEW: Kelly Coffey-Meyer 30 Minutes to Fitness: Slim Sculpting

30 Minutes to Fitness: Slim Sculpting
Kelly Coffey-Meyer, 2014

This DVD contains 2 complete 40 min workouts with warm up & cooldown and plenty of premixes. You will only need a kettlebell or dumbbell for these routines. Kelly works out with 3 backgrounders, one uses a dumbbell. This is a toning workout with a cardio effect & contains lots of great combo moves to keep your heartrate up & make the most of your workout minutes.

Workout One: After a warm up, You perform each exercise 4 times. for 30 seconds followed by a 15 second rest. Exercises include goblet squats, curl -rack- & press, scissor jacks 7 squats, French press & front press, balance single leg deadlifts & knee raise, static lunge & row, push press & luonge, figure 8 pass throughs, 1/2 Turkish get ups, scissor leg crunches, and a stretch.

Workout Two: After a warm up, You perform each exercise 4 times. for 30 seconds followed by a 15 second rest. Exercises include single arm swings, plank hold on KB, side lunges, jacks & KB push, deadlifts, rack & press, side bend & abductions, swing switches, pass through dips, Russian twists, pullover to sit ups and a stretch.

These are solid intermediate routines, but you can adjust the intensity by using a heavier or lighter kettlebell. Using a 15 lb kettlebell I got a great workout, heavy enough to feel but not so heavy that I could not complete all four rounds. As always, Kelly is a great instructor with excellent cuing and great motivation. I received this DVD to review.

Kelly Coffey-Meyer, 30-Minutes to Fitness Meltdown REVIEW

30-Minutes to Fitness Meltdown
Kelly Coffey-Meyer, 2015

This DVD has 2 thirty minute workouts and premixes. Kelly works out alone in w/o 1 and with 2 backgrounders in w/o 2, in a set with a very nice faux beach view. You will need dumbbells, a bench, an optional barbell, and an optional heavy bag.

Workout One: After a warm up you will do this circuit 3 times: jabs, V sit, KB swing, bench press & tri drop, bench hop overs, clean, overhead press, squats and concludes with a Mt. climbers & a cool down. Each exercise is about 10 reps or one minute.

Workout Two: After a warm up, this tabata style workout is 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. Combos include punches, ducks, squat shuffle, hi knees, mt climbers, po hops, jacks, shuffle, scissors, jump rope, & cool down.

I rate these solid to high intermediates. I dont have a heavy bag but still loved workout 2! Both workouts were fun and got my heart rate up. Kelly uses moderate poundage and pace with little rest in w/o 1 and really hits your upper body in this total body routine. Workout 2 is super fun, unique and easy to follow, boxing cardio with or without the heavy bag.
I received this DVD to review.

REVIEW: Kelly Coffey-Meyer 30-Minutes to Fitness Strength & Stamina

30-Minutes to Fitness Strength & Stamina
Kelly Coffey-Meyer, 2015

This DVD has 2 thirty minute workouts, plenty of premixes, and a bonus 22 min step routine! The menu offers a separate warm up & cool down, making it easy to string together workouts. You will need dumbbells & an optional kettlebell for these workouts (and a step for the bonus routine). Kelly works out in a nice studio with 4 backgrounders.

Workout One: The routine is pretty non-stop and you perform about 12 reps of each exercise. You will perform 2 exercises three times each with a KB move in between. Exercises include reverse pec deck, squats, KB swing variations, plyo lunges, supination curls, military press, deadlift, balance tri extensions, bridge and a stretch.

Workout Two: The routine is pretty non-stop. You will perform 2 exercises three times each with a KB move in between. Exercises include lateral arm circles, squat jumps, KB swing variations, side & reverse bi curls, front to back lunges, front & lat raise, speed skater, kickback combo, weighted pop squats, bridge pulses, and a stretch.

I rate these solid to high intermediates that are easy to make more or less challenging by adjusting your poundage. I found the pace of the workouts allowed for heavier weights so I could really give it my all and not be rushed. Kelly provides excellent form pointers, cuing, and motivation. This will definitely get a lot of use! I received this DVD to review.

Kelly Coffey Meyer: 30 Min to Fitness Bootcamp Review

30 Minutes to Fitness: Bootcamp
Kelly Coffey Meyer, 2009

This dvd has two <30 minute bootcamp (cardio and strength) workouts and a bonus <20 minute stretch workout. The dvd is chaptered very well and you can choose from warmup, workout 1, workout 2, stretch, or premixes. Under premixes you have a 55 min w/o that includes the w/u, both bootcamp w/o's and a c/d; a 30 strength only premix; a 30 minute cardio only premix; and a 22 minute stretch that includes the w/u and bonus stretch. You will need a variety of dumbbells. Kelly works out w/ 2 background exercisers in a smallish set with some posters in the background.

The warm up gets right to the point-which I like. You will do some jacks, jogging, marches and plyos to get you ready for the workout. Both workouts come in under 30 minutes and utilize mostly medium weights. You do a lot of multi muscle moves so you cant really heavy up. But by the end of the w/o my muscles were plenty worked from repetitions. For example, you do a dip w/ a lateral raise. So I used 10s w/ Kelly-while my LB wasnt feeling it my shoulders sure were! The format is 2 minutes of strength and then 2 minutes of cardio.

The cardio is all athletic type moves put together into little routines. They arent hard to follow but not as simple as the Firm choreo. Im sure you all will do just fine w/ it. Lots of plyos interspersed w/ lower impact moves so your HR gets way up there but you also get a little "break" (if you want to call it that) while your HR stays up. I was drenched in sweat by the end! She includes jacks, plyo lunges, mock jump rope, flying heel tap jacks, a baseball drill, a basketball drill, knee pulls, marching, and other fun but tough moves.

The strength is multi muscle and includes a few kettlebell inspired moves like a side lunge w/ a knee up and a swing type move w/ the dumbbell. Weighted plyo squats, push ups, walking planks, knee pull planks, squats with clean and press, curtsey dips, etc.

I didnt do the bonus stretch w/o but Kelly works out alone on the same set.

I would rate this a high intermediate workout that could easily be modified up or down. One b/g exerciser shows beginner modifications. I like Kelly though feel her cueing could be a tiny bit better. Too many of the moves are quite similar but combined in different ways, so for the choreo challenged like me-better cueing could have saved me (the tiny) bit of confusion I had. She has a good personality and energy and I am interested in trying more from me. I am a huge fan of "bootcamp" w/o's and this one DID NOT dissapoint! Great w/o with tons of premix options. I received this DVD to review.
