Fitness Favorites Presents: The FIRM FIRMology 2 Disc Set

Fitness Favorites presents digitally remastered FIRM, FitPrime, & KickButt favorites, some for the first time EVER on dvd, and some new collections!  Stay tuned for detailed reviews of more awesome Fitness Favorite dvds and below is my review of the FIRM FIRMology two disc anthology.

The FIRM FIRMology

The FIRM FIRMology is a 2 DVD set that includes "20 Questions," "Form Points," Rehearsals and Interviews from the instructors and Anna & Cynthia Benson. It also other information, such as 'Also included are "video coach," FIRM scientific testing,"  and the FIRM Glossary!

The Benson sisters opened their FIRM studio in 1979 and their AWT (aerobic weight training) method was groundbreaking and decades before its time. In 1986 the FIRM Volume 1 was introduced to the public with a profound effect on the market. Their groundbreaking technique is explained in detail in this anthology along with fun tidbits and of course some great nostalgia.

Much of the footage was available on VHS as separate tapes that could be purchased in the 80's & 90's to give the users more information on the importance of lifting weights and on the FIRMs signature AWT methodology. So much great information, even today this contains tons of relevant today information. Great for FIRM collectors and for all of us that like the nostalgia factor as well. Priced at only $9.99, this is a must have for all fitness lovrs. I received this DVD set to review.

NEW From Fitness Favorites Fitprime & Kickbutt Parts: QuickStart - 4 Day 4 Way Mini Fusion

Fitness Favorites presents digitally remastered FIRM, FitPrime, & KickButt favorites, some for the first time EVER on dvd, and some new collections!  Stay tuned for detailed reviews of more awesome Fitness Favorite dvds and below is my review of FitPrime Kickbutt Parts: 6 Day Trainer 6 Day Slam a new compilation available on 2 DVDs in one sturdy DVD case.  Read my reviews below of these two discs below.

FitPrime Kickbutt Parts: QuickStart - 4 Day 4 Way Mini Fusion
Melissa Grill, Heidi Tanner, Tamela Hastie, Keli Roberts, Kimberly Spreen, 2015

This set contains 2 DVDs, each with eight 15 minutes parts routines and a workout calendar on the back of the DVD case. You will need dumbbells, a tall step, a dowel, and a yoga block for these routines. You can select one workout from the main menu. Each routine has its own short warm up & cool down.

Disc one is KickButt and contains eight workouts. Each one contains some upper body, some lower body, cardio, core work, and also some stretching and yoga. Disc One contains:

  • KickButt Volume 1 Day 1 Chest & Tris
  • KickButt Volume 1 Day 2: Legs
  • KickButt Volume 1 Day 3: Back & Bi's
  • KickButt Volume 1 Day 4 Butt
Disc two is FitPrime and contains eight workouts. Each one contains some upper body, some lower body, cardio, core work, and also some stretching and yoga. Disc Two contains:

  • FitPrime Volume 2 Day 1 Chest & Tris
  • FitPrime Volume 2 Day 2: Legs
  • FitPrime Volume 2 Day 3: Back & Bi's
  • FitPrime Volume 2 Day 4 Butt

These workouts really contain a ton of great footage including: fun kickboxing routines, 4 limb work, plenty of great core work, isolation strength exercises, and simple choreo cardio routines. Each title is body part specific but the workouts really work the entire body, include some stretching, cardio and some yoga. Low on time to workout but want to "get it all in" these are the routines for you. Fitness Favorites seasoned instructors provide excellent instruction as always. These are non-dominant trainers, meaning that you work your "weaker" side first.

I rate these high beginner to low intermediate routines. Great to string together for a longer workout. They are pretty mellow and cover a lot of genres in only 15 minutes each. They are more of a total body workout than body part specific routines. Great workouts for those days when you dont have a ton of time but want to get an all inclusive feel good workout in. I received this DVD set to review.

REVIEW: Fitness Favorites FitPrime Live G-Force 3 & 4

Fitness Favorites presents digitally remastered FIRM, FitPrime, & KickButt favorites, some for the first time EVER on dvd!  Stay tuned for detailed reviews of more awesome Fitness Favorite dvds and below is my review of FitPrime Live G-Force 3 and 4, now available on DVD.  Read my reviews below of these two fab workouts on two DVDs in one convenient case.

FitPrime Live G-Force 3
Anna Benson, 2014

Anna leads this 49 min rebounding, weights, pilates, & yoga workout in a live class with a lace backdrop. You will need dumbbells, a weighted ball,  a tall box, and a rebounder.

The quick warmup includes some jogging, jacks, and hip twists on the rebounder, then weighted warrior lunges, rows, plank to low hover, up & down dog holds, interspersed stretches with & without the dowel, a fun seated ball work series that targets the core, one legged bouncing, seated overhead tri work, low squat hold & pulse, split stance lunge holds adding row, kneeling free fall to rebounder & pushing back up, squats, and dowel balance hold. The last 25 min is pilates & yoga work: down dog to the box, 3 leg dog to the box, twists, one leg bridge to modified shoulder stand, roll up to V hold & back, shoulder stand with bicycle legs, and concludes with a corpse pose.

There are definitely some advanced yoga poses in this workout but overall it is an intermediate level. Anna is very quirky and is obviously having a good time instructing. The workout contains a little bit of a lot of things so its good for a day when you are looking for variety. I received this DVD to review.

FitPrime Live G-Force 4
Carissa Foster, Tracie Long, Cindy Thorp, Eleanor Washburn, 2014

The master instructors lead this 51 minute rebounding, floor cardio & weights workout in a live class setting. You will need your rebounder, a tall box, a weighted ball, and dumbbells for this workout.

After a warmup and very long stretch you move into a slow bounce series building on with adding arms & tempo variations, weighted split plie's off the rebounder adding bi curls, hi knee jog adding clean & press arms, lat rows, balance French press, military press, leg press, hover squats, double jacks, a med ball floor cardio routine, jumps, lat raise, rear delt fly, and concludes with a pilates inspired core sequence, stretch and cool down. Pilates work includes plank, down dog, bird god, rolling like a ball, leg drops, single leg stretch, bicycle,  and side lying leg raises.

I rate this an intermediate routine. It is mostly strength with just a few rebounding segments. You can easily modify the intensity up or down or omit equipment to make this workout work for you. Great instruction and easy choreo make this a great routine for exercisers of any level. Love the live class feel, including some technical difficulties with the mike - makes you feel like you are right there with your FIRM gals. I received this DVD to review.

Tracie Long's FitPrime G-Force Review

FitPrime G-Force
Tracie Long, 2004

Tracie leads this 53 min rebouding + weights workout alone in a mansion-esque set. You will need weighted gloves, dumbbells, and a rebounder for this workout. The dvd is fully chaptered. Tracie wears the weighted gloves for the entire workout.

After a warmup, the workout contains three cardio rebounding sections, each followed by a shorter strength routine and concludes with a cooldown. Rebounding exercises include: hi knee jog with clean & press or bi curls, side to side jumps, forward & back jumps, twists, double jog, jacks, front -side- and back kicks, football shuffle, split jumps on/off rebounder, march/ jog, hops, stepping on & off the rebounder, and hop scotch. Strength work includes: rows, bi curls, leg press, dips, pushups, tri dips, crunches, wiper legs, rolling back to V hold & bounce, leg drops, side knee drops, and sit up variations.

I rate this a solid intermediate but with any rebounding workout you can vastly vary the intensity depending on how you bounce. Tracies form instruction and cuing are impeccable as usual and the routine is very easy to follow without being boring at all. The strength segments break up the rebounding and keep it very interesting. One of the best rebounding routines I have ever done.
