Many of us look to the ancient practice for health, happiness, and release of tension. But is mainstream yoga—ashtanga, power, hot Iyengar, etc.—really the best answer?

Yin yoga not only strengthens your body―makes it more vital and powerful in a yin way―it can also help with a lot of typical ailments, may they be allergies, teeth grinding, menstrual pain, headaches, infertility, skin problems, or back pain. In Be Healthy with Yin Yoga, best-selling author Stefanie Arend puts together many Yin yoga sequences to activate the self-healing powers of body and mind. She offers a holistic approach that includes Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine, breathing techniques, meditation, nutrition, fascia therapy exercises, and self-reflective questions to encourage deeper explorations of the roots of readers’ ailments. Suited for both beginners and experienced yoga practitioners, and replete with high-quality pictures that make the poses and sequences easy to follow and understand, Be Healthy with Yin Yoga is a wonderful support for anyone who wants to take their health back into their own hands.

BOOK REVIEW: The Type II Diabetes Cure

By Kent C. Sasse, M.D.

Why Everything You Know About Obesity & Type 2 Diabetes Is Wrong

For decades we’ve been told that the proper treatment of type 2 diabetes is to control the blood sugar with medication. But the science tells us a shockingly different story. In his new book THE TYPE II DIABETES CURE [September 10, 2019] Dr. Kent Sasse reveals the latest clinical research showing that the shots-and-pills trap us into a cycle of weight gain, worsening diabetes, and alarming risks of heart attack, kidney failure, and amputations.

The goal of the experts around the globe is to cure the type 2 diabetes outright – not settle for managing a number – and metabolic surgery combined with regular exercise does just that. The safe, 45-minute procedure with 4 Band-aids is quietly transforming the landscape of diabetes care, curing people of type 2 diabetes with a safer approach than pharmaceuticals.

This book will help you move from managing the serum glucose to reversing the type 2 diabetes and living a longer, healthier life. The alarming data about type 2 diabetes makes it imperative to do so. Dr. Kent C. Sasse is a professor, surgeon, and scientist, and through easy to understand the language he illustrates:
  • The 5 most important things your doctor has not told you about your type 2 diabetes.
  • The faulty logic of continuing to live with type 2 diabetes and keep “treating the number”.
  • The three deadly myths today about type 2 diabetes.
  • The risks for a person who is under a doctor’s care now and supposedly doing everything right.
  • How to determine if metabolic surgery might be right for you.
  • The proven keys to reversing your type 2 diabetes and keeping it in remission long term.
  • Why metabolic surgery is now recommended by the American Diabetes Association
The new book THE TYPE II DIABETES CURE by Dr. Kent Sasse explains the true risks of long-term, heavily prescriptive treatment and spotlights how often the very same "health organizations" that are meant to help us play a vital – and arguably sinister – role in keeping patients medicated for life. The book gives readers the steps to take to reverse and cure the disease including a procedure many of us consider a "shame" surgery for the particularly lazy without ever realizing that it is, in fact, a lifesaver.

Dr. Sasse is one of the United States’ most compelling authorities on type 2 diabetes working specifically within the community of adults and adolescents whose pre-diabetes or type 2 onset as a result of obesity. He the founder of the Obesity Prevention Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of obesity and excessive weight gain in children and adolescents, and he understands that our pharmaceutical heavy approach to treatment is not only deeply flawed but a recipe for disaster.

BOOK REVIEW: You Are What Your Grandparents Ate

by Judith Finlayson

Getting & staying healthy is the goal, so using all the tools at your disposal is your best game plan. Those tools include looking to the future & the past to get all of the knowledge & information that is available to us. In this book, you will learn how to live a life and leave a legacy of wellness to your future generations. Use your families history to help fix you and your families future health. Real science laid out in simple terms makes this book a great resource that is easy to understand. Judith gives you real information that you can easily incorporate into your life so you can live your healthiest and most fulfilling life. I am really gaining so much from this book & cant wait to finish it. Keep reading to learn more.

What your grandparents ate and how they lived their lives has a direct bearing on who you are today. And in turn, your lifestyle will impact the lives of your children, grandchildren and generations beyond.

This is the basic premise behind one of the most fascinating avenues of scientific research currently being conducted around the world — the idea that your chances of developing chronic disease as an adult are linked with systemic changes that took place while you were still in your mother’s womb.

Publishers Weekly calls You Are What Your Grandparents Ate a “fascinating and eye-opening treatise on how a wide variety of chronic diseases (heart disease, diabetes, obesity etc.) are linked not only to current lifestyle but to such other factors as stress, environmental toxins, and even, per the title, one’s grandparents’ diet.”

In the book’s foreword, Dr. Kent Thornburg of Oregon Health & Science University writes,  “This is not just another health promotion book. It explains why we are suffering the largest health epidemic in human history, why we need better wholesome foods to buy, why we need better food policy and why we must pay careful attention to the health and nutrition of our young women and men as they prepare to bear the next generation. Judith Finlayson offers a new and exciting view of how we have come to our present state of poor health and how we can reinvent ourselves as healthy.”

BOOK REVIEW: Running to Glory an Unlikely Team, a Challenging Season, and Chasing the American Dream

Sam McManis

The runners from Eisenhower High School have every justification to fail. They’re from low income families, many of whom are migrant workers. With little time to devote to their passion, they give everything they have to their quest for the Washington State High School Cross Country Championship.

I am really enjoying this book and cant wait to finish it. Which, wont be long since it is hard to put down. For runners, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys a fun book this is a great read for the whole family. The book is not only for sports fans, it goes into the kids school and lives as well. We are originally from WA state so this was another fun reason I am enjoying this book.

Running to Glory is a celebration of grit, perseverance, and the American Dream. It follows the cross country team from Eisenhower High in Yakima, Washington, through a tumultuous and challenging season with excitement, suspense and pathos. Despite enormous economic disadvantages, the Eisenhower runners compete with affluent schools in the Seattle-Tacoma area, where parent involvement is strong and funds are readily available.

Their coach Phil English knows how his runners feel. He grew up poor in rural Ireland in the 1960s during The Troubles and emigrated to the U.S. for a college track scholarship. Over 37 years coaching in Yakima, Coach English won 11 state titles, and sent more than 100 kids to college with scholarships for running.

Author Sam McManis crafts a compelling narrative, which follows the team from summer workouts in the blistering sun to the state championship meet in the bitter cold. Readers will discover how these young men and women overcome their environment or succumb to it—on the course and in the classroom.

About the Author:
Sam McManis has worked as a staff writer and columnist for California’s leading newspapers (the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee) for more than three decades. Until May, 2016, he was a lifestyle columnist and feature writer for the Sacramento Bee. His stories have been published in The New York Times and Wall StreetJournal. He has received numerous national journalism awards and has covered two Olympic Games, World Series, NBA Championship series and Super Bowls. In 2016, he received a “Best in the West” award for arts and entertainment writing and was named California’s “in-state” journalist of the year. He also teaches English and composition at Central Washington University. McManis has run 17 marathons -- including the prestigious Boston Marathon twice -- and also completed 7 ultramarathons and countless races of shorter distances. He knows running and, as a journalist with more than three decades of experience, he knows what makes a good story.
